Prof Thomas P Rüedi honored by Nepal Orthopedic Association

Prof Thomas P Rüedi, AO Foundation founding member, former member of the AO Board of Directors and AO International President (2005-06), became an honorary member of the Nepal Orthopedic Association at a banquet in Katmandu, Nepal on May 23, 2009. Rüedi, a Swiss surgeon focusing on general and trauma surgery, was honored for his contributions to trauma surgery education around the world through the AO Foundation and the AO Socio Economic Committee.

Rüedi, who was editor-in-chief of AO Principles of Fracture Management in 2000 and 2007, was visiting Nepal for the first time as international faculty supporting the AO Principles Course, where he gained a deep understand of the challenges that the region’s surgeons face.

“His name is already well known to many Asian surgeons who have attended AO courses or gone through AO publications,” said Dr Bachu Ram KC, president of the Nepal Orthopedic Association. “After he took up his role as President of AO International, AO course activity increased significantly in Asia. From time to time, he visited many countries in Asia to impart his vast experience to participants in many courses. He is known as an excellent speaker, a skilled surgeon and a dedicated teacher.”

Dr Bachu Ram lauded Rüedi as “A good friend to many surgeons in Asia “ going on to say that “His contributions and support throughout Asia, and particularly in Nepal, are very much appreciated by executive members and deserving of special recognition.”
